Possum Problems?
Possums are absolute opportunists when it comes to in house real estate – Brushtail possums like a nice warm insulated bed for their daytime snooze and your roof is a perfectly protected place to be. Even in summer when the temperature in a roof space is 55 to 65 degrees celsius, you will find a possum curled up in a roof.
They are not like rodents, so they do not chew electrical cables or pipes, but they keep awkward hours, and they tend to pee a lot in your roof. Most disturbances happen when they leave the roof in the evening, and come back home early in the morning.
Does the sound of a roof tile going ‘clunk’ at 4.30 am every morning sound familiar?
Many people live with that – and after a while it becomes just as comforting as the sound of the kids coming home after a long night out.
We cannot remove possums from their natural habitat.
However, we can trap them in your roof, block the entry hole in the roof, and let them go again.
Some people put up a possum box in a tree which gives the possum a new home!
